Jess is a Wanderer cycled just under 50km on a round trip from Duntroon to Kurow. Following part of the infamous ‘Alps 2 Ocean’ track, you pass farmland, a vineyard and follow parts of the main road on an extremely well-maintained track. The most important part is making sure that your bike does NOT have a flat tyre but DOES have brakes thirty minutes before departure. Yep, that’s right. No brakes and a flat tyre just as we were leaving. Fortunately, I was able to source a back-up bike for the adventure.
At the halfway point, just outside Kurow we were, of course, hungry and thirsty. We stopped at River T Estate. A real-life working vineyard with an impressive selection of wine, craft beer and some incredible looking (and tasting) platters. I recommend going for a sharing plate – ‘the duo’. My goodness it was marvellous!
The ride itself is 90% flat with a couple of mild rises towards the middle and end. Crossing the river at several points, the route sometimes has to change due to flooding but the diversion is well-posted so you won’t get lost.
With beautiful mountain views and a smooth track to cycle upon, this won’t disappoint a keen cyclist. Make sure you’ve got your padded shorts on though to avoid bum-ache the next day!
