Weeks 17&18: Celebration of Life!
The last few weeks in New Zealand have had their highs and lows. Firstly, Jason became an uncle to little Amy Fang. She was born happy and healthy on the 1st February 2008. Jenny, Chris and baby are all doing well and we wish them all the best. We can’t wait to see her on our return.
It turned out to be fortunate that we spent happy times in Malaysia prior to arriving in NZ as Jason’s grandmother passed away peacefully this week. She made it to 94 and still enjoyed her life and whisky to the end! May she rest in peace.

Now, onto our recent travels. Since the cyclone we haven’t done much because of on-call commitments at work. However, we have found time to get in a little exercise. We climbed the Hemi Matenga last weekend and despite being dehydrated made it to the top. We were treated to clear views of Kapiti Island.
This weekend we finally made it to Kapiti Island (see above). This is a nature reserve just off the coast from where we live. The Department of Conservation has made it a predator free zone so that NZ native birds can survive in their natural habit. They also limit visitors to just 50 per day and you need to get a permit to be allowed to pay for an expensive boat trip there! Anyway, we got lovely weather and enjoyed our trek upto the lookout at the top. The walk took 2.5 hours and was pretty tiring!
But at least we made friends with the local birdlife:
Kapiti Island will always be extra special for us as Jason proposed when we reached the top.
I said ‘YES’!
Lots of love to you all,
Claire and Jason Xxx
